Roland and May Eves Mountain Inlet Sanctuary, NJ - New Blue and Orange Trails (June 2026)

ABOUT THE PARK:

DIRECTIONS:
GPS Coordinates 40.97085, -74.64047
There was only 1 parking spot when I arrived at 7 AM.  It seems that although a sign says no overnight parking, some are parking their cars in that lot.  The parking spot at the far end had a deceased deer :( in front of it and between my car and the van is handicapped parking.

TRAIL MAP:
This map is from the Everything Hopatcong Facebook page.  I took the liberty of coloring in the trails to make them a bit more visible.

HIKE DISTANCE:  2.7 miles

THE HIKE:
You know how Facebook throws things in your timeline that the algorithm *thinks* might interest you?  I spend more time blocking those annoying pages that are of absolutely no interest to me.  Until ...

... whoa, wait, what, NEW TRAILS?  You know I am all over that.  The last time I had hiked here was in August 2012.

Facing the road from the parking lot, turning left and walking a short distance to ...
... the start of the yellow Mountain Inlet Loop Trail.
The Lake Hopatcong Trail joins in.
The yellow trail leaves to the right; I'd be coming back to that later at the end of the hike.  For now, to the left on the Lake Hopatcong Trail.
The new blue Sanctuary Loop joins in.
Left on the orange Scenic Overlook Loop.
This would be the overlook but seems like only when the leaves are down.
Back at that fork from earlier, left on yellow.
This comes out on a dirt road with private property signs everywhere.  It is pretty daunting because it looks like you are walking up somebody's driveway.
It is a road that comes out on Lakeside Avenue.
Turning around there are more signs along with the trail markers on the left.  I think the signs are more for cars driving in because to the right ...
... a sign clearly states it is trail access.
Right on Lakeside Avenue back to the parking lot.
