DISTANCES:
BIKE:  Wallkill Valley Rail Trail Kingston to New Paltz - 26.8 miles

THE BIKE:
From hiking Joppenbergh Mountain it is less than a mile drive to the Binnewater parking lot.
Crossing the road to a short access trail ...
... where I turned left at the trail.  I was glad I decided to do this part first because it turns out there is a steep hill and I would rather get that out of the way early on.
For now it's flat.  I found that a good 95% of this entire route was in the shade.
Passing lots of old kilns and ruins along the way.
The uphill comes in somewhere in this area.
Going under I-87.
Some of the benches have coffee tables.
The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail ends at Route 32.  The Empire State Trail turns left on Route 32.  This was my turn around point.
Heading back.
Passing by the access trail to the Binnewater parking lot.
Rosendale Trestle
Roundout Creek
The rail trail passes by trails to the right and left (Giant's Ledges Pocket Park and Snyder Mine Trails) that Shawnee and I had hiked in October 2016.
There are several driveway crossing along the way but very few road crossings.
Coming up on this road crossing, they had just poured asphalt and it was smoking hot!  It would be a while until it cooled and I could cross but these incredibly nice gentlemen stopped everything, let me walk on the grass along the recently paved part, cross in front of the truck laying asphalt and then walk back down the other side of the road.  So very nice of them!  And when I tell you it was hot walking along that asphalt with steam coming up off of it - can't imagine how they work with that.
Bridge over the Wallkill River
Wallkill River
There is a little wetlands viewing area on the right.
I only saw an American Robin ...
... but heard lots of other birds.
Coming into downtown New Paltz ...
... literally steps to the left on Main Street ...
... is Karma Road Organic Vegan Cafe!
Their menu is massive - so hard to choose.
Falafel Wrap and Hibiscus Lemonade
Getting ready to head back.
Just as I came up on that newly paved section, the last of the work trucks went by and they gave me the thumbs up out the window and said "Good to cross!"
A bit of a Shawangunk view along the way.
Joppenburgh Mountain where I had hiked before the bike.
Taking the left back to ...
... the parking lot.
