HIKE DISTANCE: 6.2 miles with some backtracking and repetition
THE HIKE:
The last time I hiked here was August 20, 2013. With half day summer Fridays soon coming to an end at work it was a good choice for a Friday afternoon. I managed to capture some trails that I am pretty sure I did not hike the last time.
The sign on the left is completely different from the sign back in 2013. |
Taking the steps down to the left to the red Riverside Trail. |
Trout Brook |
At the brown fence the red trail veers to the right. |
Just past the natural area sign ... |
... we turned right on orange although I never saw any orange blazes until the very end at the bridge. |
Black River |
Waterfalls in Trout Brook just past the bridge ... |
... then over the bridge with orange blazes and left after the bridge. |
Left on blue briefly then ... |
Left on red across a bridge back over Trout Brook. |
Now on red heading back to where I left off to turn on orange. This part is very rocked and rugged at first then smooths out. |
Back at that natural area sign, I turned left on orange to repeat that trail which was fine because I really liked that trail. |
Back at that first bridge over Trout Brook, left ... |
... then right on red before that second bridge. |
This part is again very rocky and rugged. |
Back to smooth, wide trail for a bit. |
Old non-working water fountains throughout the park. |
Back to rocky and rugged. |
Boundary monuments at the end of the park. |
Heading back. |
At the end of red ... |
... left on yellow. |
Passing by the playground ... |
... then left on the pink Upland Trail. |
At the end of pink ... |
... right on the green Playground Trail briefly ... |
... to the beginning of the pink trail and an overlook. |
The overlook. Oh well, in the winter maybe. |
Passing back by the playground ... |
... to the blue Haki Trail. |
The Gaia app showed a trail to the left just before this bridge but there was no such trail. |
So back up blue we went. |
At the end of blue, right on white back to the parking lot. |
