From West Main Street, turn right just after the Agway building before the Exxon station.
Although there is no designated parking, there are no signs that say you can't park here, just not after sunset.  The trail head is straight ahead.

TRAIL MAP:
Lansdown Trail - Hunterdon County
Capoolong Creek Trail - TrailLink.com
Both trails are identified on Googlemaps and Google Earth

HIKE DISTANCE:
10.8 miles (5.4 miles each way out and back)

THE HIKE:
Beginning of the Lansdown Trail next to Fox Lumber.
Male and female house sparrows.
The trail soon passes under I-78.
A hazy view of the countryside.
The entire 1.8 miles of the Lansdown Trail is well-maintained crushed stone.
It's a multi-use trail.

South Branch of the Raritan River.
Old railroad ties at the end of the Lansdown Trail.
To reach the Capoolong Creek Trail you can either continue on the unmaintained part of the Lansdown Trail for a short distance or turn right on Lower Lansdown Road then left on Lansdown Road...
... and end up at the same live railroad crossing on Lansdown Road.
Just after crossing the tracks, a historical marker sign on the left...
... and the unmarked entrance to the Capoolong Creek Trail on the right.
The trail is a dirt path...
... and begins to follow along Capoolong Creek.
The trail does not cross this bridge, but it is worth checking out.
Hanging plants all along the bridge.
Farther along, the trail crosses a power cut - with cattle!
A very pretty section with the sound of flowing water.
Capoolong Creek
You do have to watch your step - a LOT of horse droppings along the way!
The old train station still stands in ruins at the end of the Capoolong Creek Trail.
Retracing back to the beginning.
Not a good idea right before getting back in the car but gosh, it felt so good.  (And this is why we don't drive fancy cars.)

Farny State Park, NJ and the New Wildcat Ridge Trail

ABOUT THE PARK:
Farny State Park -NJ Department of Environmental Protection

DIRECTIONS:
GPS Coordinates 40.956545, -74.476768
Parking at the red-blazed Beaver Pond trail head (trail starts beyond gate on left)
If your GPS tells you to turn on Darlington Road, ignore those instructions as that road does not go through.  You need to reach the trail head via Upper Hibernia Road.

TRAIL MAP:
Jersey Highlands Trail Map #125 - NY-NJ Trail Conference

HIKE DISTANCE:  9.15 miles

THE HIKE:
Walk beyond the gate to start on the red-blazed Beaver Pond Trail.
The trail soon starts to follow along Beaver Pond.
Beaver Pond
Rugged white-blazed Four Birds Trail south of Split Rock Road.
The white trail crosses over Split Rock Road at a kiosk.
A short woods road leads to views of Splitrock Reservoir.
More rugged terrain on the north side of Splitrock Road.
Partial views from the top.
The white-blazed trail descends and follows along the reservoir.
Splitrock Reservoir
A very scenic swamp on the Lilac Trail which was teaming with all kinds of birds - Great Blue Herons, ducks...  But you will have to take my word for that because not a one of them would pose for a picture.
But I can always count on my chipmunk friends to sit still for me.
A metropolis of mushrooms.
The lilac blazes (shown as pink on the map) of the Lilac Trail are sometimes hard to see but it's all woods road which is a welcome relief after the ruggedness of the Four Birds Trail.
Some other blazes join in briefly from Camp Lewis trails.
Back on the white-blazed Four Birds Trail to the new yellow-blazed Wildcat Ridge Trail.  If you are looking at Jersey Highlands Map #125, just west of the bottom of Splitrock Reservoir there is a woods road that connects the white trail to a parking area at a power cut near the Oreland Branch abandoned railroad tracks - this is now the yellow-blazed trail.
I'm not sure if I missed something here but same end result - I came out into the power cut which led to the parking area. The trail seems to actually come out on Upper Hibernia Road a little to the left of the power cut.  Either way, turn left on Hibernia Road and walk a short distance downhill to...
... where the abandoned Oreland Branch crosses over; turn left here and the yellow blazes resume.
It's a very pretty walk on the old rail bed to end the hike.
The rail bed and yellow blazes end at Upper Hibernia Road and from there it is just a short road walk back to the car.
