  1. I loved the video and found it touching to see Shawnee again. Your colorful collection of balloons is testament to your efforts to improve our environment. I miss the days when I could manage more challenging hikes, but your blog helps me remember. Have a wonderful New Year!

    1. That she was, the best hiker ever! I always try to remember that Dr. Seuss quote: “Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”

  4. Thank you so much for the year's hikes. Like many many others I loved seeing Shawnee again and miss her very much but I am so happy for Brodie being saved and turning into a very likable hiking partner for you. Wishing you and Brodie a very Happy Hiking New Year.

    1. Thanks, Bill. Ah yes, Brodie with a bad case of cabin fever. Just too darned cold this weekend and staying home isn't sitting well with him. I think I am creating another hiking monster. Happy New Year!

  5. Thank you for the video! You sure covered a lot in 2017...even though Shawnee was only with us until August, she hiked much more than probably most other dogs over 2 or 3 years! But it does indeed sound like Brodie is rapidly beginning to fill Shawnee's "shoes" (at least, in his attitude!)

Excellent job with the balloon collection too...48 -- doesn't this almost double last year's total? Looks like a lot of "Happy Birthday" ones, but it *surely* wasn't a happy day for the parks/trails on the day those balloons landed in them!

Anyway -- I look forward to another year of your adventures, as I'm sure Brodie does too!

    1. Thanks, Jim. Yes, Brodie has caught the hiking fever and he totally knows the difference between a work day and a hiking day. In 2016 I found 20 balloons so yes, more than double in 2017.
