THE BIKE:
Day two of driving from MO to NJ, a bike ride to break up the drive.
Heading north from the parking lot.
Was thinking I would stop here for some snacks for the rest of the drive home on my way back.
The trail follows along busy Route 66. The constant traffic noise was becoming quite annoying. I was considering turning back and finding a different trail. But I kept going for a while.
Around mile 5 the trail veers away from the highway and becomes quiet, relaxing and scenic. I was glad I stuck with it.
These barriers were odd. Mostly they were just there in the middle of the trail, not anywhere near a road crossing. I could not figure out why that would be. Maybe to slow down those e-bikes?
There were several piles of stacked railroad ties off to the side.
The leaf drop was quite thick at times.
This wall of railroad ties went on for a very long time.
Alligator Alley
At this kiosk ...
... the North Country Trail crosses over.
Then the county line where the Rail 66 County Trail ends at the road up ahead.
The other side of that road is the Knox & Kane Rail Trail that goes all the way to Kinzua Bridge State Park.
Heading back.
I did stop and buy some cookies for the ride home but unfortunately they turned out to be so sickeningly sweet that it was like eating straight sugar and I had to throw them out.
I passed by the parking lot because of course I had to capture that last 0.3 miles of trail on the other side of the road up ahead..
It's not a scenic stretch and ...
... ends at Route 66. It was disappointing that is just ended. No 0 mile marker?
When I turned to head back I saw it way off to the right, not on the trail. Trail completed.
Back to the parking lot and 5 more hours of driving to home.
